ESPN reports that Kansas City and Trent McDuffie are not expected to agree to a contract extension before the first game of the season. The 24-year-old is entering the fourth year of his rookie contract and is set to earn a base salary just north of 2.6-million-dollars. The Chiefs exercised the fifth-year option on McDuffie’s deal in the offseason, which makes his 13.6-million-dollar salary in 2026 fully guaranteed. Kansas City selected the Washington product with the 21st overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Chiefs are preparing for Week One. Kansas City will play the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday night in Brazil. Head coach Andy Reid said that wide receiver Hollywood Brown should be fine for the matchup despite not playing at all during the preseason. Brown has been dealing with an ankle injury.
