Chiefs training camp. Expect an expanded role for second-year safety Jaden Hicks after Justin Reid moved on to the New Orleans Saints. Safety Bryan Cook says he knows Hicks is ready (cut). Hicks, a fourth-round pick last season, had three interceptions and 27 tackles playing in every game last season behind Reid and Cook.
With a battle at left tackle, between Jaylon Moore and Josh Simmons, and a battle at left guard, between Mike Caliendo and Kingsley Suamataia [soo-wuh-MAH-tuh-EE-yuh], there’s competition brewing during camp, and defensive tackle Chris Jones says that’s good for the defense.
The Chiefs have been focusing on explosive and big plays, going deep downfield. Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo says he dislikes it when big plays occur in practice.
The Chiefs are continuing training camp. Kansas City fourth-round rookie wide receiver Jalen Royals impressed on Wednesday and took most of his repetitions with the first-team offense. Royals reportedly performed well running routes alongside fellow wideouts Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown. The Chiefs will hold practices today and tomorrow before taking Saturday off.
