The Chicago Bears may be one step closer to leaving Illinois.
Indiana lawmakers just advanced a key bill that would create a Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority, clearing the way to finance and build a potential new Bears stadium near Wolf Lake in Hammond. The measure passed committee unanimously, giving the team what it called the “most meaningful step forward” in its stadium search so far.
The Bears say they’re continuing due diligence on the Indiana site and envision a “world-class stadium” that would serve the broader Chicagoland region.
The push comes after years of stalled negotiations in Illinois over funding and development plans. Indiana officials are aggressively courting the team, while Illinois leaders are still trying to keep the franchise in state.
