Drinkwitz Announces Adjustment to Defensive Line Coaching Staff

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou head football coach Eliah Drinkwitz announced Friday that coaching veteran and current defensive tackles coach David Blackwell will assume additional responsibilities due to the departure of defensive line coach Al Davis.

Davis announced Friday that he’s resigning from his position as an assistant coach at Mizzou.

“Today I accepted Coach Davis’ resignation, as he is stepping away from our program,” Drinkwitz said. “I want to thank him for his time with us and wish him the best moving forward.”

Blackwell, who’s been on staff since March 2023, will take over additional responsibilities along the defensive line and continue to work closely with edges coach Brian Early.

“We are fortunate to have a veteran in David to be able to step in and fill any additional coaching needs we might have at that position,” Drinkwitz added. “We’re looking forward to a seamless transition as we continue preparations for the 2025 season.”

Blackwell joined Drinkwitz’s staff in 2023 as a senior analyst before shifting to the defensive tackles coach prior to the 2024 season.

He has more than 30 years of collegiate coaching experience across nine different schools, including 11 years as a defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech (2020-21), Old Dominion (2019), East Carolina (2018), Jacksonville State (2014-17), Fordham University (2012-13) and USF (2009).
