The Liberty Eagles faced the 3-1, Willow Springs Bears on Friday night at their home field, The nest at Liberty High School. Eagles outplayed the Bears on defense and were able to score at least one more interception than the Bears had throughout the game. Bears also made a few interceptions themselves but fell woefully short.
1st Quarter: Willow Bears control the tip on the hands of Jeremiah Galloway. As the Bears set up for their first move on offense it’s stolen for a Pick six by Kyle Roberts. Eagles get 8-0, 16 seconds into the game. Bears go at it on a few more downs but Eagles get it back and another touchdown as Jaren Rutledge gets wide open and runs it in for six more. Eagle defense as a newcomer, Paxton Hunter transferring in from Summersville. Both teams end up making a fumble in the next three or so minutes. This is before Parker Tune scores another six and another good kick by Wyatt Cox to make it 21-0 Eagles.
2nd Quarter: Bears continue to expand on yardage but not making it anywhere close to the in-zone. Eagles with not many turnovers but two more catches and runs by both Parker Tune and Jaren Rutledge. Rutledge with a great look at yardage on the first play after Tune’s touchdown. Eagles take a 33-0 lead at 2:56 to go in the Half. Bears try for another offensive play but still no dice as the clock runs out.
3rd Quarter: During the first chunk of the second half, Bears continue to get a few gains during turns on offense but to no avail. Wyatt Cox for The Eagles scores two touchdown runs and Jaren Rutledge continues to be the majority for tackles in the game so far. Quarter ends with the score at 45-0
4th Quarter: By this point, none of the yardage the Bears have tried to press into has been positive. They still carry several interceptions in the ballgame, Eagles have still outplayed the Bears on defense. One more touchdown scored by Jasper Melby makes it 51-0. This is how the Eagles win the ballgame.
Liberty Eagles will be on the road next week to Mountain Grove to take on the 4-1 Panthers. Game will kickoff @ 7PM preceded by the Pregame show on The Fox 96.9
