Eric Bieniemy back as Chiefs offensive coordinator

The Chiefs are turning back to a familiar voice to lead their offense.
Eric Bieniemy is back in Kansas City as offensive coordinator, returning to a role he last held during the team’s Super Bowl run just a few seasons ago. This time, though, the plan came together quickly after Chicago’s playoff loss earlier this month.
Bieniemy says the timing surprised him, but the call itself did not.

Once the opportunity presented itself, Bieniemy says his focus wasn’t on the past, it was on whether he could help move the Chiefs forward. He believes his experience away from Kansas City gives him a clearer picture of what this offense needs now.

Since leaving the Chiefs, Bieniemy has worked in a variety of roles, including calling plays at the NFL and college levels and most recently coaching running backs for a Bears team that made the postseason. He says that time away helped him grow, but he’s not rushing to make changes. Instead, the immediate future is about studying what’s already in place.

Bieniemy says those conversations will come later. For now, it’s about understanding personnel, reviewing tape, and identifying areas where the Chiefs can be more consistent after a season that fell short of expectations.
And he knows exactly what comes with this job — working alongside Andy Reid, leading an offense built around Patrick Mahomes, and being measured by championships.

Bieniemy was part of the staff that helped Kansas City reach three Super Bowls and win two titles during his previous stint. Now, he returns with a broader perspective — and a clear understanding of the standard.
The Chiefs are betting that familiarity, paired with experience, can help steady the offense and get them back where they expect to be.
