Grizzlies fall to State Fair, 103-86 Saturday Afternoon

The Missouri State West Plains Grizzly Basketball Team traveled to State Fair Roadrunners on Saturday Afternoon, January 17th, 2026 after a painful twenty point defeat on Wednesday, January 14th to Mineral Area.

Height advantage was once again a major disadvantage for the Grizzlies as State Fair Comes up with the win, 103-86. State Fair coming off a 83-80 win to The Moberly Greyhounds last Wednesday. 

1st Half: State Fair controls the tip but taken but turned over twice. Ball will go to the MSU-WP Grizzlies. #1 Tyrell Smith tries a reverse layup and it falls short and the ball will go back to State Fair but lost again.

Grizzlies on the board first off the hands of #24, Dassiah Green. Ball lost and back to State Fair. And a three by #12, JP Indong for the Roadrunners. Suddenly it is a 10-2 ballgame as State Fair has taken the lead. Make it 13-2 as #15, Daniel Garza breaks in and scores on a two.

Finally #1, Tyrell Smith nails one in as Grizzlies try to come back. Garza for State Fair scores again on the next possession for State Fair. Finally, what Grizzlies have needed; a three by #24, Dassiah Green as Grizzlies trail by seven, 17-10. 

Seventeen footer from the wing by #5, Shaun Glass as Grizzlies look to think it might help to shoot some more threes. But attacked back by #11, Chander Joseph with a three, now 21-12 State Fair. 

#20, Damani Barley to scores next for Grizzlies as they stay down by about six. Still under twelve minutes to go in the first half.

Ace Evans finally with his first three of the day as Grizzlies continue to trail by seven, 27-20.

State Fair showing a very obvious height advantage as #11, Makai Lindsey fails to block a shot by #13, Andin Ashford as State Fair Continues to lead by ten 39-29.

#1 Tyrell Smith will another jumper, now 41-32. But the third three for #5, Damien Durden. Once again the height advantage not doing any favors for The Grizzlies.

Tyrell Smith  for the Grizzlies cuts the lead to seven as we approach the half. 

HALFTIME- State Fair Roadrunners: 46/ MSU-WP Grizzlies: 39

2nd Half: Jp Ndong, the post man for State Fair shoots at the line to capitalize on the first two of the half for State Fair.

#24 Dassiah Green answers back for the Grizzlies and they will continue to hold by nine. 

So far, the leading scorer for State Fair is Daniel Garza as he has 16 points. A twenty point game, 63-43. 

Grizzlies have hardly any luck on rebounds as Ndong and Garza continue to beat Tyrell Smith and Dassiah Green down the floor.

Ace Evans continues to half luck making it inside on the rebound, but they are still down by twenty five. Ace also makes it to the free throw line twice. Grizzlies still have many missed shots and by a large deficit, twenty five at one point here in the second half. 

#5, Shaun Glass with a three pointer with under 7:25 as this is the high point of ball movement for Grizzlies on the day

Garza for State Fair has 21 points as he makes another three with 3:46 to go, the lead 96-70.

Answered back by #20, Damani Barley with his second field goal of the day.

Grizzlies make their tenth team foul with 2:25 to go, this sends Loic Mimiche to the line.

State Fair ends up making it into the 100 range and pulls off the upset, 103-86

This coming Wednesday night, Grizzlies will be on the road to Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff to take on the raiders.
