Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night. He became the first Indiana football player to win the award since its inception in 1935.
Mendoza claimed 2,362 points including 643 first place votes to beat out Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love and Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin.
Mendoza led the Hoosiers to a 13-0 season including a Big Ten Championship and the number one seed in the College Football Playoff. Mendoza threw for 2,980 yards and 33 touchdowns and another six touchdowns on the ground.
Indiana plays in the Rose Bowl on January 1st.
