Led by a dominant effort in the paint, the Mizzou Men’s basketball team cruised to a 22-point victory over Bethune-Cookman, 82-60, on Sunday afternoon. The victory pushes the Tigers to 10-2, while the Wildcats fall to 3-7 on the year.
MIZZOU LEADERS
Graduate Jacob Crews led the Tigers with 20 points off eight-of-nine shooting, including three buckets from beyond-the-arc, while notching five rebounds. It marked the fourth time in the last five games that Crews has scored at least 20 points for the Tigers.
Senior Mark Mitchell added 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, nabbing four steals, seven rebounds and three assists. Junior Anthony Robinson II added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting with seven assists and three blocks.
GAME RECAP
Missouri jumped out to a 7-2 lead early, highlighted by a Robinson bucket on the first possession for the Tigers. MU went on a 8-0 run to extend the lead to eight, highlighted by a Shawn Phillips Jr. dunk followed by a block for the senior on the defensive end.
A Mitchell fastbreak slam led to a timeout by the Wildcats with the Tigers up 10, 22-12. Mizzou then took an 11-3 run into the break, highlighted by a Robinson slam, notching a 14-point lead after the first stanza, 39-25.
It was more of the same for MU out of the break as the Tigers as Missouri took an 8-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back Robinson and-one buckets. MU extended the lead to 25 by-way of a 6-0 run highlighted by a Crews three pointer.
With 10 minutes to play, an 8-0 run highlighted by back-to-back Annor Boateng triples extended the lead at 26 for Missouri. From there, the TIgers cruised to the 22-point victory, 82-60.
TEAM STATS
Mizzou shot 57.6 percent from the field in the winning effort with a 7-of-19 clip from beyond-the arc. The Tigers led 50-18 on points in the paint in the contest.
Bethune-Cookman shot 42.2 percent from the field, adding a 6-of-12 (50 percent) clip from beyond-the-arc.
