Lady Zizzers Take Down Glendale and Kickapoo

The Lady Zizzers Swim Team had a busy weekend of swimming. They started in Springfield on Friday night for a meet against Glendale, Kickapoo, Ozark, Nixa, Republic, and Waynesville. With excellent swims, they took down each of their opponents. For the first time in the history of Lady Zizzer Swimming (9th year in existence), they beat Glendale and Kickapoo!

The Lady Zizzers were led by Junior Paige Sheridan and Sophomore Evie Niesen, who each scored two individual wins on the night. Sheridan won the 200 yard Individual Medley (2:18.29) and the 500 yard Freestyle (5:28.14). Niesen added wins in the 100 yard Freestyle (57.70) and the 100 yard Breaststroke (1:17.65). Joining them with an individual win was Freshman Roz Fiorino, who won the 100 yard Backstroke (1:07.81). The relay team of Niesen, Audrey Land, Trinity Wake, and Sheridan also took home the win in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay (1:51.34).

 

Other top finishes on the night include: 200 yard Medley Relay of Addison Peugh, Niesen, Land, and Fiorino (2nd – 2:10.03); Land in the 100 yard Butterfly (1:18.48); Fiorino in the 100 yard Freestyle (3rd – 58.60); Penelope Autry (2nd – 1:24.97) and Aubrey Gross (3rd – 1:34.14) in the 100 yard Breaststroke; and the 400 yard Freestyle Relay of Sheridan, T. Wake, Ad. Peugh, and Fiorino (2nd – 4:05.02).

 

They ended the night winning each team dual by the following scores: Glendale (103-60), Kickapoo (108-61), Nixa (112-44), Republic (124-18), Waynesville (121-42), and Ozark (79-69). This improves their undefeated season in dual meets to 10-0!

 

After the meet was over, they traveled to North Kansas City to compete in the Winnetonka Holiday Invitational on Saturday. There were 26 teams competing, and the Lady Zizzers finished 7th, the highest finish by any Lady Zizzer Swim Team at a meet of this size!

 

Sheridan distanced herself from the field to win the 500 yard Freestyle. This was the best finish by any Zizzer at a meet of this size!

 

The meet hosts awarded medals to the top 20 in individual events and relay events, and plaques to the top 20 teams. The following swimmers earned individual medals for their finishes: Sheridan (4th – 200 yard Individual Medley; 1st – 500 yard Freestyle); Niesen (6th – 100 yard Freestyle, 10th – 100 yard Breaststroke); Fiorino (8th – 100 yard Freestyle; 8th – 100 yard Backstroke); Ad. Peugh (9th – 500 yard Freestyle, 16th – 100 yard Backstroke); T. Wake (20th – 500 yard Freestyle); Autry (18th – 100 yard Breaststroke).

 

All 3 relays earned medals. The 200 yard Medley Relay of Ad. Peugh, Niesen, Land, and T. Wake finished 11th (2:08.23). The 200 yard Freestyle Relay of Niesen, Land, T. Wake, and Sheridan finished 9th (1:51.56). The 400 yard Freestyle Relay or Sheridan, T. Wake, Ad. Peugh, and Fiorino wrapped up the weekend with a 6th place finish (4:06.46).

 

State Qualifying Standards were earned or lowered this weekend by Sheridan (200 yard Individual Medley, 500 yard Freestyle), Niesen (100 yard Freestyle, 100 yard Breaststroke), Fiorino (100 yard Freestyle, 100 yard Backstroke), and the 400 yard Freestyle Relay.

 

The Lady Zizzers will look to continue their amazing swimming this weekend at the Monett Invitational Saturday, December 17 at the Monett YMCA.
