After a stunning 83-48 victory at home versus The former state ranked Dixon Bulldogs on Saturday night’s game in The Liberty Legends Shootout; Liberty does it again as they traveled to Bunker, Missouri to take on the undefeated, 21-0 Bunker Bulldogs, winning by only one point.
1st Quarter: Bunker Eagles control the tip. Shot is up and no good by Senior Brayden Radford. Rebounded by the Liberty Eagles who lose the ball out of bounds and a foul. Radford goes to the line for the first two point at the line and an early 2-0 lead for Bunker.
Rebound Liberty and Alex Tune tries a three which is no good but pass to Paxton Hunter who evens the game at 2-2 after Senior, Jayton Scaggs gets off several sets of two pointers.
Bunker playing tough defense, Draydon Wells with a two pointer as well as another two pointer by Paxton Hunter. But Scaggs for Bunker continues to dominate as Bunker shoots up to 12-7 with 3:15 to go.
First three pointer of the game by Junior, Jackson Bryant for Bunker making it a 15-8 ballgame with 2:00 minutes to go. Another three pointer follows as Liberty cannot get off a shot by Junior, Chetan Calzado.
At the end of one, Bunker Eagles have the lead 18-8.
2nd Quarter: Junior, Brenan Meloy is the next to score for the Bunker Eagles as he takes the ball in for two. Alex Tune on the rebound for Liberty with another two, 18-11 the score with under 7:30 to go.
A foul and Meloy shoots two free throws to make it 21-11. Liberty is not concerned so much as far as trying to make the ball in as much as they are trying to keep control. Alex Tune eventually gets a steal and another two pointer with about 5:21 left.
A foul on Bunker and Paxton Hunter goes to the line to shoot two but none of his shots make it. Rebound by The Bunker Eagles. Another foul and still not much luck at the free throw line, this time Paxton Hunter makes one.
Bunker with two more field goals by Meloy and Calzado. Bunker leads by eighteen now. Finally a three by Blayne Altermatt is good. 29-18 with 2:15 left to go in the half.
After a time out; Paxton Hunter gets the ball in for two after several more attempts by Bunker. Another three on the rebound by Calzado.
A travel call on Liberty with 3/10 of a second to go.
HALFTIME- Bunker Eagles: 31/ Liberty Eagles: 21
3rd Quarter: A foul on Paxton Hunter starts the second half as he tries twice to steal it away. Ball stays with Bunker and shot up and good by Chaten Calzado. Rebound by Liberty and shot and a foul good by Parker Tune. Parker makes only one free throw at the line but scores again on the rebound.
Liberty with another stroke of luck as Carter Ellett scores again after Bunker steals it away but a foul called on the rebound with four ½ minutes to go in the third. Another shot in and good by Parker Tune as Liberty has began to heat up.
Turnover and the takeaway again by Parker Tune. Long three by Alex Tune and a foul as Brenan Meloy shoots two free throws as Bunker has the lead by six, 36-30 with 3:30 to go.
Rebound and floater is up and good by Parker Tune for Liberty. Taken back by Meloy for Bunker, shot up no good.
Liberty takes it back and two foul calls on Calzado for Bunker as Parker Tune gets off another shot. Calzado on the next rebound, shot up and good. Game cut two two points, 34-36.
Calzdo scores again as Liberty tries to come back. But a three by Parker Tune, Liberty now trails 37-38 with a minute to go.
Another three is no good by Parker Tune. Brenan Meloy on the rebound for Bunker. A three good by Parker Tune as Liberty trails by one at the half.
4th Quarter: Two three pointers are good by Blayne Altermatt. Bunker tries to play some back court pressure. Deep three by Meloy and lead is cut down to five. But several putbacks on the rebound by Draydon Wells.
Several questionable calls made on The Eagles while Bunker is playing extremely aggressive. But Liberty continues to deny Bunker a possession.
The only threat for Liberty in the fourth is Meloy who only ends up shooting one three between several blocks.
An extremely intense end as Liberty wins the ballgame by one point as Meloy has the opportunity to tie the game.
Liberty knocks off The 21-0, Bunker, by a Final of 59-58.
Eagles will be back at home Tomorrow (Tuesday, 2/10) as they face the (7-13) Cabool Bulldogs. Varsity Game will follow the JV Game which begins at 6. Broadcast on The Fox 96.9.
