Missouri State Honors Maroon & White Academic Achievers

SPRINGFIELD — A total of 190 Missouri State University student-athletes were recognized Wednesday (April 1) for outstanding academic achievement throughout their college careers.

This year’s crop of academic honorees represents student-athletes currently participating in all 17 of Missouri State’s intercollegiate programs. Each achieved a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade-point average for all semesters at Missouri State.

 

This is the 10th straight year Missouri State has presented these scholar-athlete awards, which have traditionally been announced at the Maroon and White Banquet event.

 

The recipients of this year’s Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards were: male recipient Lukas McCalla, a golfer majoring in finance with a 3.94 grade point average; and female recipient Madeline Saville, a runner with a 4.00 GPA in Elementary Education. Saville completed her undergraduate degree in December, while McCalla will complete his undergraduate coursework in May. These awards were presented to the graduating student-athletes holding the highest cumulative grade point averages.

 

Thirty-two student-athletes were recognized as Dr. Bruce Johnson Scholars — these individuals have been recognized all four years of their academic journey: Sarah Allegri (women’s swimming and diving), Haley Allen (women’s swimming and diving), Grace Breiten (track/cross country), Jordyn Capra (track/cross country), Charles Carter (football), Ashley Coonfield (women’s soccer), Michael Creek (men’s soccer), Laynie Dake (volleyball), Alye Darter (women’s tennis), Brooke Dreiling (women’s swimming and diving), Jack Duffy (baseball), Olina Einarsdottir (women’s soccer), Erin Griesbauer (softball), Hannah Heinrichs (softball), Thomas Heye (men’s swimming and diving), Brock Hughes (football), Gerri Idos (volleyball), Darby Joerling (softball), Ian Jones (men’s soccer), Minki Kang (men’s swimming and diving), Kaitlin Maxwell (women’s soccer), Lukas McCalla (men’s golf), Alexia Meyer (women’s tennis), Chris Obert (men’s golf), Mayleigh Oder (women’s soccer), Kayleigh Putnam (women’s soccer), Sam Senn (men’s swimming and diving), Payton Smith (women’s swimming and diving), Alexa Willard (women’s basketball), Stuart Wilkin (men’s soccer), Erica Wollmering (track/cross country), Brooke Zenner (women’s soccer).

 

The Highest Team GPA Awards, were presented to the Missouri State men’s golf team (3.40 GPA) and women’s tennis (3.64 GPA) programs for their classroom performances during the fall 2019 term.
