Mizzou football rallied from behind twice in the second half and closed with 11 unanswered points to beat South Carolina 29-20 on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. The win allowed the now 19th-ranked Tigers to reclaim the Mayor’s Cup in front of their 16th straight sellout crowd. Missouri improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the SEC, while South Carolina fell to 2-2 and 0-2 in conference play.
The Tigers’ ground game powered the comeback, with Ahmad Hardy rushing for 138 yards and a score, Jamal Roberts adding 76 yards and the go-ahead touchdown, and quarterback Beau Pribula contributing 72 yards on the ground along with a passing touchdown. Missouri finished with 285 rushing yards, marking the first time since 2011 the Tigers had three players with at least 70 yards rushing in the same game. Kicker Robert Meyer provided the final points with a 40-yard field goal in the closing minutes.
Defensively, Mizzou stifled the Gamecocks’ running game, holding them to minus-9 yards on 22 carries, the fewest rushing yards the Tigers have ever allowed in an SEC contest. The defense also recorded five sacks and limited South Carolina to two late field goals after halftime. Missouri now leads the all-time series 10-6, has won six of the last seven matchups, and extended its home winning streak to 14 games.
Mizzou is 1-and-0 in SEC play and 4-and-0 overall. The Tigers host UMass this Saturday.
