No. 21 Mizzou Volleyball (9-6, 1-3 SEC) fell to Oklahoma (11-3, 3-1 SEC), 3-2, on Sunday, Oct. 5, at Hearnes Center.
KEY PLAYERS:
- Senior Caylen Alexander recorded a team-high 18 kills on a .222 hitting percentage. She was one dig short of a double-double with nine digs.
- Redshirt senior Tryah Ariail led the team in blocks with four, and added seven to her overall performance.
- Senior Maya Sands tallied 16 digs and added five assists.
First Set:
The game started neck-and-neck as a service ace from Maya Sands propelled the Tigers into the timeout up 15-14.
A block by Ariail got Mizzou the chance to serve at 17-16, before following that up with two kills by Alexander to eventually get to 21-20. Tigers secure the win after a deuce to win by two at 30-28.
Second Set:
Mizzou claimed the first point of the set and started with a six-point lead at 9-3.
Alexander dominated from the back row with a kill and then a tip kill, leading the Tigers to a 15-6. The Sooners would gain some momentum, forcing an MU timeout at 23-17. That momentum would continue for the rest of the match, but would momentarily be stalemated as the Tigers won the set 25-21.
Third Set:
The Tigers started with a 3-1 lead, and senior Regan Haith would add to that with two kills to lead the Tigers to a 6-3 lead. Oklahoma would earn the lead back as it recorded six-straight points heading into the media timeout, 15-12 Sooners.
OU would hold that lead for the remainder of the set, but not before MU made some movement with multiple kills from Alexander. In the end, the Sooners would win their first set of the match 25-20.
Fourth Set:
With momentum on the side of Oklahoma, the pendulum would continue to swing its way. Both sides would fight for the lead, as the fourth set boasted 18 ties and eight lead changes. The latest of those ties came as the set was tied 21-21, before the Sooners went on a 4-0 scoring stretch.
In that final stretch, Oklahoma would record three blocks to force a set five, 25-21.
Fifth Set:
The final set went majorly to the Sooners, as they recorded 10 kills to the Tigers’ five. Included in that were five aces from OU, as it would go on to win the final set 15-9.
