The St. Louis Cardinals surrendered five runs in the top of the fifth during an 8-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium. Nolan Gorman homered in the losing effort, while Andre Pallante was charged with his 12th loss after allowing seven earned runs and one unearned run on eight hits in five innings. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central at 65-and-68. They send Sonny Gray to the mound against Pittsburgh tonight.
Other notes: MLB suspended Willson Contreras for six games after he was ejected from the Cardinals game against the Pirates on Monday. Following his ejection, he went on an emotional tirade, threw a bat near the umpire, and tossed bubble gum onto the field. Contreras is appealing his suspension and can keep playing until the appeal is reviewed.
The Cardinals have released their schedule for the 2026 season. The Cardinals will open the year with a home game against the Tampa Bay Rays on March 26th. The season will end with a game in Milwaukee on September 27th.
