Softball Announces Addition of Assistant Coach Jason Gwyn

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri softball head coach Larissa Anderson announced Wednesday the addition of Jason Gwyn to the Tigers’ staff.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Jason Gwyn to our coaching staff as an assistant coach,” Anderson said of the hiring. “Jason brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the defensive side of the ball, and we’re excited for the energy and insight he’ll bring to that unit. In addition to his work with the defense, he’ll serve as our recruiting coordinator, a role we’re confident he’ll thrive in, thanks to his outstanding connections and deep ties within the recruiting community. He’s a tremendous asset to our program, and we’re excited for what the future holds.”

Gwyn heads to Mizzou after spending four seasons as an assistant coach at North Texas. With the Mean Green, the team registered a mark of 140-83 and won the 2022 Conference USA Tournament title to go with its first-ever NCAA Regional bid.

Gwyn was responsible for coaching infielders, defensive alignment and situational execution as well as serving as UNT’s recruiting coordinator.

In 2025, North Texas went 36-21 with a 16-11 conference record and concluded the season as American Conference Tournament runners-up. Elizabeth Moffitt, Skylar Savage and Cierra Simon were named to the 2025 NFCA All-Region Team while four players earned All-American Athletic Conference honors.

Gwyn was added to the USA Softball Women’s National Team coaching pool in 2023 which made him eligible to be selected as a coach for a U.S. Women’s National Team roster. He also coached at the U.S. Women’s Fast Pitch Camp along with numerous All-Americans, including a pair of national player of the year winners in Jocelyn Alo (Oklahoma) and Valerie Cagle (Clemson).

Prior to joining North Texas, Gwyn was the head softball coach at Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, from 2017-21. He also spent the 2016 season as the head coach for Little Elm High School after five seasons as an assistant at Hebron HS.

In 2008, Gwyn coached three teams in Austria for one season. He led the Austrian National team, which placed third out of 12 squads at the European Championships, the Junior National Team, which placed seventh and the Superfund Wanderers, a professional team located in Vienna, which finished third in the Euro Cup.

Gwyn also has softball coaching experience with Texas Glory Fastpitch, Mizuno Impulse Softball, Inc. and Texas Woman’s University.

Gwyn graduated from Texas Tech in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise and sport science. He also earned a master’s in sports psychology from the University of Texas in 2005. Gwyn spent two years as a student assistant at Texas Tech and was a graduate assistant at Texas.
