Jared Phay, head coach of the (MSU-WP) Grizzly Basketball team announced the hiring of Braxton Williams as his new assistant coach. He replaces Jason Owens Sr., who resigned in May to take a position with Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. Williams’ hiring is pending approval by the Missouri State University Board of Governors. The West Plains native comes to the Grizzly Basketball program after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach for Matt Keeley at Ottawa University in Arizona. The Spirit made its first National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national tournament appearance this past season and reached the second round. The 6th Annual ORN Cares Charity Golf tournament presented by State Farm Insurance agent Justin Shelby will be held the last Friday in July, the 29th it’s a two-person 18-hole scramble at North Terra Golf course in West Plains out BB hwy. The cost is $150.00 per team. Prizes on every hole and minimum of four flights. This year recipient is the Diaper Resource Center.
