In a tense Olympic gold-medal showdown in Milan, the United States beat Canada 2-1 in overtime, ending a 46-year drought since the famous 1980 “Miracle on Ice.”
The hero was Jack Hughes, who buried the game-winner just 1 minute and 41 seconds into overtime, sealing America’s third men’s Olympic hockey title.
Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was the backbone of the win, turning aside 41 of 42 shots as Canada controlled long stretches of the game.
