COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri women’s basketball continues their seven-game homestand at 8 p.m. on Thursday against SMU in the second annual SEC-ACC Challenge. The contest will air on SEC Network.
Missouri is fresh off a strong 34-point win over Jacksonville State on Sunday.
Sophomore Grace Slaughter and Senior Laniah Randle led the way for the Tigers with 15 points each. Randle also dominated the boards, grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds on her way to her third double-double of the season.
Sunday’s victory marked Slaughter’s ninth double-digit scoring performance of the season.
Slaughter also notched four free throws in the contest as her 36 makes on the year are tied for 35th nationally.
Sophomore Abbey Schreacke contributed 12 points in the win, including two 3-pointers. She ranks third in the SEC for three-pointers made per game (2.8) and sixth in shooting percentage from beyond the arc as she shoots at a 40.9 percent clip.
Schreacke’s 27 3-point makes this season rank seventh nationally.
Collectively, the Tigers are second in the conference and 14th nationally in 3-point percentage at 39.0 percent.
Averi Kroenke totaled three assists in the win as she ranks fourth in the SEC and 18th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.8.
Thursday’s matchup marks the third matchup all-time between Missouri and SMU and the first matchup since 2002.
SMU, first-year Atlantic Coast Conference members, enter the contest at 5-3 following a 71-46 win over UT Arlington on Friday.
The Mustangs finished last season with a 14-16 record with an 8-10 mark in conference play. They were defeated in the opening round of the American Athletic Conference tournament by Tulane.
SMU is coached by Toyelle Wilson who is in her fourth season on the sidelines for the Mustangs with a 50-47 record. Wilson has a career record of 105-90 after three prior seasons at Prairie View.
SMU is highlighted by junior Nya Robertson who is averaging 22.4 points per contest, which ranks ninth nationally and second in the ACC.
Chantae Embry is contributing 12.5 points per game for the Mustangs.
Overall, SMU is averaging three players in double-digit scoring per contest.
Missouri was defeated by Virginia in the inaugural challenge matchup a season ago.
