Zizzers Win Big on Friday Night

The West Plains Zizzers hosted the Poplar Bluff Mules on Friday night at Zizzer Stadium in West Plains.

Poplar Bluff received the football to begin the game and the West Plains defense starts strong by forcing a three and out. A promising Zizzers drive ended inside the Poplar Bluff 10 yard line with a fumble. After the fumble, the Poplar Bluff Mules mounted a scoring drive of over 90 yards with a touchdown run by Colt Clifford. The point after attempt was no good making the score 6-0.

A quick 50 yard answer from Ethan Miller to Jacob Moore made the game 7-6 in the Zizzers’ favor. The West Plains defense stood tall again inside their own red zone and stopped the Mules on 4th down. The Zizzers were then forced to punt, but Warren Lawson quickly swung momentum after recording an interception and a touchdown run. The blocked extra point made the lead 13-6 midway through the second quarter. Another West Plains stop led to a receiving touchdown by Lawson to continue his special first half. The halftime score was 21-6 in West Plains’ favor.

Aside from a 98 yard interception for a touchdown, the second half was made up of a West Plains scoring barrage. Jackson Taylor scored on a 57 yard screen pass, Jacob Moore recorded his second score from 18 yards out, and Taylor added a rushing touchdown from 15 yards out to round out the third quarter with a 41-12 West Plains lead.

After an uneventful 4th quarter from a scoring perspective, West Plains ran the clock out to put the finishing touches on a 41-12 win bringing their record to 5-2 before another home game next week against Marshfield.
