Garland Alfred Armstrong

Garland Alfred Armstrong Sr., age 77, of Big Piney, Pulaski County, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, at his residence in Big Piney, Pulaski County, Missouri. Born on January 15, 1948, to Perry Bay Armstrong and Nina (Roland) Bonner Armstrong, Garland lived a life rooted in faith and community.

Garland’s life was marked by love and partnership. He married Linda Lou Coen in March 1968, Janet Annette Cobble in September 1978, and Jessie Patton on October 11, 1997, sharing 27 years of marriage with Jessie, filled with shared faith and joy, until his passing.

A hardworking man, Garland dedicated himself to various roles throughout his career. He worked diligently on a family dairy farm in Houston, Missouri, at Lee’s Textile Factory in Houston, Missouri, and in service at Walmart in Rolla, Missouri, earning respect for his strong work ethic and commitment.

Garland was a devout Christian whose faith guided his actions and relationships. He was a kind and steadfast friend, known for his generosity and dedication to those around him. He will be remembered most for the warmth he brought to every interaction and his deep connection to the rural communities of Texas County and Pulaski County.

Garland is preceded in death by his parents, Perry Bay and Nina (Roland) Bonner Armstrong; his sister, Billie A. Bonner; and his sister, Linda Sue Armstrong (infant).

Garland is survived by his loving wife, Jessie (Patton) Armstrong; his six children, Glenda (Armstrong) Pinkerton of Cornell, Illinois, Garland Armstrong Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Gregory Armstrong of Grain Valley, Missouri, Gala (Armstrong) Wigger of Wichita, Kansas, Heather Armstrong of Houston, Missouri, and Justin Armstrong of Mountain View, Missouri; his brother, Lawrence Irvin Bonner; his sister, Sandra May Armstrong; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; along with extended family and countless friends who will carry his memory forward.

Garland will be cremated, with funeral arrangements conducted by Evans Funeral Home in Houston, Missouri. A memorial service is to be held at Community Lighthouse Church in Duke, Missouri followed by a dinner after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to help offset the costs of funeral services and expenses for his widow, Jessie.
