The L.A. Dodgers struck first in the National League Championship Series, edging out the Milwaukee Brewers 2–1 in a tense Game 1.
Pitcher Blake Snell was nearly unhittable, throwing eight shutout innings, giving up just one hit, and striking out ten. The game stayed scoreless until the sixth, when Freddie Freeman launched a solo home run to give Los Angeles the lead.
In the ninth, Mookie Betts drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2–0, but Milwaukee refused to go quietly. The Brewers plated a run and loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, bringing the crowd to its feet. With everything on the line, Blake Treinen struck out Brice Turang to end the rally and seal the win.
The Dodgers now lead the series 1–0. Game 2 in the best-of-seven series is tonight, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitching for Los Angeles against Freddy Peralta in a matchup of All-Stars.
