Multiple Agencies Respond to Major Grass Fire Near Plato

Plato, MO. – Yesterday afternoon, emergency services responded to a major grass fire that threatened multiple homes in Texas County.

Jeff Reed of the Roby Fire Department says they responded to a mutual aid of the event at 1:44pm, which quickly became overwhelming for those on-site. Several agencies responded to control the fire, including Plato, Houston Rural, Falcon, Mountain Grove, Hartville, Willow Springs, Eleven Point, Raymondville, the Department of Conservation, and the U.S. Forest Service. Roughly 60 people and 30 pieces of equipment were used to control the fire.

Reed went on to say that this was the largest incident in over 10 years, but every threat to local structures and livestock was neutralized. The cost of fighting this fire is estimated to be at around $15,000. 

Crews were cleared from the scene at 8pm.
