West Plains, MO. – The first 5K @ Galloway was recently held, presented by Explore West Plains and the Galloway Park Board. Melinda Ray of West Plains was the women’s overall winner with a time of 24:29:67 and Ryken Gunter of West Plains was the men’s overall winner with a time of 26:15:35. Following the 5K was the “Fun Day @ Galloway,’ which featured information booths and activities for the entire family.
“It was a beautiful day for the events and we were happy to see everyone who came out for the run and the fun day activities,” said West Plains Tourism Coordinator Melissa Wharton. “The City of West Plains and the Galloway Park Board have worked very hard to improve the park including the newly paved trails and a children’s playscape, which is under construction.”
“A special thank you to Alicia Gunter and Jack Bates for figuring out the 5K course and to members of the West Plains High School Cross Country team and parents for volunteering to help with directions on the course,” Wharton said.
“I also would like to thank the organizations for participating in the Fun Day @ Galloway,” Wharton said. Participating organizations included: West Plains Fire Department, Howell County Rural Fire Department, Missouri Department of Conservation, Family Karate, South Howell Ambulance, University of Missouri Extension Office, The Avenue Theater, Missouri State University-West Plains, Christos House, Missouri State University-West Plains Pool and Fitness Center, Howell County Health Department, Ozarks Healthcare Therapies, Diaper Resource Center, Boys and Girls Club, West Plains Housing Authority, Air Evac, South Howell County Ambulance, and Make a Face! Face Painting.
