ALTON, MISSOURI- Funeral Services are planned for 21-year old and 2023 Alton High School Graduate, Gunnar Kennedy. They will be held on Saturday, October 25th, 2025 in The Alton High School Gymnasium. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 24th, 2025 at The Clary Funeral Home, Alton, Missouri from 5-7 PM.
Kennedy had been studying abroad through the University of Virginia, Charlottesville and was reported missing after a hiking trip. He was first reported missing on October 7th after failing to return to his classes. After an intensive search in which his family participated, his remains were found two days later by a mountain search and rescue team.
Gunnar’s brother Justin created a timeline for the travel of his body back to the states. The body arrived in Alton on Saturday, October 18th. This effort was supported by a Gofundme account in which has so far accumulated just over $24,700. The account seeks to help both funeral expenses and the work the family has done with the consulate’s office in Slovenia to navigate the process of reparation. U.S Senator, Eric Schmitt’s office has reached out to family in support for this as well.
