Arkansas Law Enforcement Launches Speeding Crackdown Campaign

Arkansas law enforcement agencies are ramping up efforts to combat speeding with the launch of the Speeding Slows You Down enforcement campaign, which will run from July 9 through July 31.

The campaign, organized by the Arkansas Highway Safety Office in coordination with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), will feature high-visibility patrols statewide. Arkansas State Troopers, sheriff’s deputies, and municipal police officers will be out in force issuing citations to drivers exceeding speed limits.

According to NHTSA, speeding contributed to 11,775 traffic deaths nationwide in 2023—nearly 29% of all traffic fatalities. Arkansas reflected this trend, with one in five traffic deaths linked to excessive speed.

Officials are emphasizing that most speeding-related crashes occur not on highways, but on local roads. In 2023, 88% of such fatalities nationwide happened off the interstate system. Law enforcement will focus their attention on neighborhoods, school zones, and rural roads where the risks are greatest.
