Douglas County Man Charged with Harassment

A man is facing serious allegations after reportedly sending disturbing and threatening text messages to his parents, prompting a formal harassment investigation by authorities.

According to a probable cause statement filed by Sergeant Aaron Box of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old D’Carlo Burditt is accused of First-Degree Harassment in violation of Missouri law.

The investigation was initiated on September 12, 2025, when Burditt’s father contacted the Sheriff’s Office and reported receiving a series of threatening messages the previous evening. In the report, the father stated he believed the messages were a threat to his life, and said his wife had also received similar disturbing messages from their son on August 31 — messages she did not reveal to him until after this latest incident.

The text messages, according to the report, appear to contain religious overtones, with Burditt referencing divine authority and punishment. One message allegedly read:

“Because you have chosen to follow your heart, and not humble yourself before the Lord, your authority in this family has been removed… May your pain rapidly increase, and may you die slowly, with no one to hear your cries from excruciating pain, except the Lord God.”

Another message sent to his mother reportedly stated:

“There are giants in this land that need to be slain for the sake of justice and administering help to the people in need… the training has begun.”

The parents told investigators they had previously blocked their son’s number in an attempt to stop communications, but the messages continued via other methods.

Sergeant Box stated that the content of the messages was clearly threatening and caused emotional distress to both recipients. The father has agreed to pursue criminal charges, and screenshots of the messages have been added to the case file.

The report also notes that D’Carlo Burditt has a prior arrest history, including an alleged assault involving a firearm in Springfield, adding to the seriousness with which authorities are treating the case.

As of now, formal charges of First-Degree Harassment are being pursued, and the investigation remains ongoing.
