Highway Patrol Arrests Man on DWI, Child Endangerment, Weapon and Other Charges

On September 13, 2025, Devon Rodriguez was arrested following a multi-location incident that began on US Highway 60 and ended on Rogers Avenue in Cabool. Authorities responded to reports of a man making threats with a firearm and discovered Rodriguez intoxicated, belligerent, and in possession of two young children—ages six years and six months—during the incident.

According to witness statements and video evidence, Rodriguez was driving erratically in a red Dodge Durango, allegedly swerving into oncoming traffic and intentionally striking another vehicle. After the collision, Rodriguez reportedly brandished a handgun at the victims before fleeing on foot.

Rodriguez initially denied possessing a weapon, but his six-year-old son and multiple witnesses contradicted that claim. Surveillance footage showed Rodriguez pointing what appeared to be a pistol before discarding it behind a neighbor’s residence. The firearm, described as a .22 caliber revolver, has not yet been recovered.

Rodriguez, a convicted felon with a prior unlawful use of a weapon charge from 2022, admitted to tossing the gun, stating, “I knew if y’all found it I was going to prison.” He was transported to Texas County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending formal charges. A blood draw confirmed intoxication, and damage to both vehicles matched witness accounts.

He has been charged with:
• Driving While Intoxicated
• Endangering the Welfare of a Child
• Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
• Assault
• Property Damage
• Resisting Arrest
