Campers and outdoor enthusiasts can learn how to start a fire without matches during a free hands-on program hosted by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) on Friday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.
Titled “Outdoor Preparedness: Fire and Flintstone,” the program will be led by ancestral skills expert Don Brink, who will demonstrate traditional fire-starting techniques such as flint-and-steel, bow drill, and solar ignition (weather permitting). Attendees will also learn how to build effective fire lays, select good tinder materials, and start fires in challenging conditions.
