Licking, MO. – Following an investigation of an assault on May 27, 2024, the Texas County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Licking man on assault charges.
Texas County deputies were dispatched to a residence on N Highway in the Licking area after getting a report of assault. When they arrived on the scene, they spoke to a witness who advised that there had been a lot of commotion inside the residence. The witness also stated that the victim had come out of the residence and told him that Roger Counts had assaulted him for no reason. The deputies made contact with Counts, who had advised the deputy that his dogs were fighting inside the residence and the victim grabbed ahold of one of the dogs and started choking it. He then said he put the victim in a chokehold and told him he would let go when the dog was let go. The deputy spoke with the victim who told them that Counts had punched him in the stomach and put him in a chokehold.
When the Texas County deputies tried to place Counts under arrest, he refused to comply. He then assaulted the deputy and punched a witness in the nose, drawing blood.
Roger Counts was charged with domestic assault- 2nd degree, assault of special victim – 3rd degree, and resisting and interfering with arrest for a felony. He is being held on a $5,000 cash only bond.
