Manhunt Underway in Izard County for Wanted Parolee

CALICO ROCK, Ark. — Authorities are actively searching for a Calico Rock man who fled from law enforcement twice in less than 24 hours.

Stephen Whaples, 36, is currently wanted for parole violations. According to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, Whaples first fled on foot from an Arkansas State Trooper on Sunday afternoon, August 3, 2025, near Dolph Road. Despite an extensive search of the area, he was not located.

In the early morning hours of Monday, August 4, deputies were again dispatched—this time to the 1500 block of West Crossroads—after Whaples was reportedly spotted in the area. He again fled on foot before officers could apprehend him.

The Arkansas Department of Corrections Dog Team has joined the search, which remains ongoing as of the latest update from the sheriff’s office.

Authorities urge the public not to approach Whaples if spotted. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the Izard County Sheriff’s Office at 870-368-4203 or dial 911.
