Mansfield Man Facing Stalking Charges Just Hours After Release from Jail

Douglas County authorities arrested a Mansfield man Tuesday after he allegedly violated a court‑ordered no‑contact order just hours after being released from jail. According to a probable cause statement filed by Sgt. Aaron Box, 45‑year‑old Jessie Dee Doherty went to a real estate office in Ava around 4 p.m. on March 3, where he obtained an employee’s business card and contact information.

Deputies say Doherty had been released from the Douglas County Jail earlier that afternoon, at 12:18 p.m., with conditions prohibiting any contact with the individual connected to his previous case. The victim was not at the office when Doherty arrived, but staff reported the encounter to Sheriff Chris Degase.

Sgt. Box located Doherty walking along Highway 5 a short time later and took him into custody. After being read his Miranda rights, Doherty admitted he had gone to the business to get the names of realtors he had spoken with previously. Deputies recovered several business cards from his pocket, including one belonging to the protected party.

Doherty was placed on a 24‑hour hold and is now charged with first‑degree stalking, a felony under Missouri law. The affidavit also notes Doherty’s prior arrests for violent offenses, which investigators say heighten concerns for community safety.

The charge is an accusation and not evidence of guilt. A court will determine guilt or innocence.
