Mountain Home Lions Club Launches First Recycle Regatta Jug Boat Race

The Mountain Home Lions Club is launching an exciting new community event in 2026 — the inaugural Mountain Home Lions Recycle Regatta Jug Boat Race.

Set to take place at Buzzard Roost Boat Dock at Lake Norfork on Saturday, April 25th, the Recycle Regatta will challenge teams to design and build boats made primarily from recycled plastic jugs and other reusable materials, then race them to win first place.

The event combines creativity, teamwork, and environmental awareness while providing a fun and memorable competition for the community.

Community members can begin donating clean, rinsed milk, water, and tea jugs with screw-on lids at collection bins around Mountain Home, including both Harps Food Stores locations and the Baxter County Recycling Center. Teams may also pick up jugs at those locations to begin building their boats.

Businesses, families, schools, churches, and community groups are encouraged to form teams and take part in the race. In addition to the on-water competition, awards will be presented for special categories including People’s Choice Boat, Most Creative Use of Recycled Materials, Best Team Spirit, and the memorable “Titanic” Award for the most spectacular sinking.

The Recycle Regatta aims to bring the community together while highlighting the importance of recycling and protecting local waterways. Spectators are encouraged to attend and cheer on the teams as they paddle their handcrafted vessels across the lake.
