Governor Mike Kehoe has ordered the Missouri State Capitol dome to be illuminated in green from sunrise on Wednesday, May 7, through sunrise on Thursday, May 8, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month and Children’s Mental Health Week.
The green lighting serves as a symbolic reminder of the importance of mental health and the need to support Missourians facing mental health challenges. Governor Kehoe emphasized the significance of open conversations and access to care, stating, “You are not alone if you struggle with mental health challenges. Our administration, in collaboration with the Missouri Department of Mental Health, is focused on sharing resources and improving access to treatment.”
This week, Governor Kehoe will officially proclaim May as Mental Health Awareness Month and designate May 4–10 as Children’s Mental Health Week in Missouri. According to the Missouri Department of Mental Health, approximately one in six children and youth live with a diagnosable mental illness, and half of all lifetime mental health conditions begin by age 14.
