Ruling in Favor of the Shannon County Sheriff’s Department

On July 29th Judge John H. Bloodworth ruled that the Shannon County Commission does not have the authority to terminate the existing staff nor diminish their existing pay pursuant to Kuyper vs Stone County Commissioner 838 S.W. 2d 436.

This began on June 20th when the Shannon County Commission notified the Sheriff’s Department that funds were no longer available to fund employment of deputies and staff.

On July 1st a restraining order was put in place. The order read “This court order ensures that the Office of Sheriff may continue full operations without disruption and that deputies and staff will receive their rightful pay”
