Shannon County Sherriff’s Department Warns About Scams

On Friday, July 18, 2025, our Shannon County Central Dispatch received multiple reports from concerned citizens about suspicious phone calls claiming to be from the Shannon County Sheriff’s Office. The callers falsely informed individuals that they had active warrants and demanded payment over the phone.

These are spoofed scam calls. Phone spoofing is a tactic used by scammers to make it appear as though they are calling from a legitimate number—such as the Sheriff’s Office—when in reality, the call is coming from somewhere else entirely. These scammers often try to intimidate or pressure people into giving them personal information or making payments using gift cards, wire transfers, or other untraceable methods.
