This weekend marked the first days of hunting season for firearms within the area. Between that and breeding season, Deer are on-the-move right now. Just as one should be safe while in the woods around this time of year, so too should one be safe and careful while driving along the roadways.
Make sure while driving you’re always scanning the roadsides for the whites and browns of deer approaching the roadway. Slow down if you suspect there are deer nearby.
If you do see a deer on the road, attempt to use your horn to alert the animal, or your brakes if applicable. Do not swerve to avoid a collision, as if could put you into the path of the opposing road lane, or into the ditch where more damage is possible.
Lastly, of course, if you plan to visit the woods, even in safe locations, be sure to wear some hunter orange to reduce the likelihood of any accidents during this hunting season.
