Howell County, MO – A routine traffic stop on December 21, 2025, led to the arrest of a man after authorities discovered illegal substances in his vehicle. At approximately 10:31 AM, Deputy First Class Robert Malone of the Howell County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a blue Nissan Altima on State Route FF near US Hwy. 160 for speeding. The vehicle was clocked at 64 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Upon making contact with the driver, later identified as 30-year-old Scott Evans, Deputy Malone was aware that Evans did not possess a valid driver’s license. When asked if his license had been reinstated, Evans admitted it had not. As a result, Deputy Malone instructed Evans to exit the vehicle, and Evans was placed under arrest for driving while revoked or suspended.
While being transported to the patrol car, Deputy Malone read Evans his Miranda rights. During questioning, Evans voluntarily informed the officer that there were illegal substances in the vehicle, specifically stating that there was marijuana, which he noted was not illegal, and possibly methamphetamine. Evans also indicated he had used meth the previous night.
Following this admission, Deputy Malone conducted a Probable Cause search of the vehicle. Authorities recovered a baggie containing a crystal-like substance, which field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Additionally, three syringes were found inside a camouflage bag in the front passenger seat.
Evans was transported to the Howell County Adult Detention Center, where he was booked and placed on a 24-hour hold. He is awaiting formal charges from the Howell County Prosecutor’s Office.
Evans has been charged with possession of a controlled substance.
