W.P. Schools precautionary lockdown last Friday over suspicious person

West Plains, MO. – The West Plains School District went into a precautionary hold on Friday, December 1, 2023, after West Plains Police began an investigation on a man in the area who was reported to have been running with a firearm. 

West Plains Police officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspect. Officers had been informed of an incident on US 63 and Bill Virdon Boulevard at 9:10 a.m. by the Howell County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies found the man in the area of the Catholic Church on Bill Virdon Boulevard and noted that he did not have a firearm in his possession at the time.

The hold placed on the school district buildings was a precautionary measure, as no threats had been made to the school.
