West Plains City Crews Preparing for Winter Storm

City crews are fully staffed and ready as winter weather moves into the area.
Roadway pre-treatment began this morning, with crews focusing on:
• Steep hills
• Bridges
• High-risk intersections

What to know about this storm:
This system is expected to bring dry snow due to extremely cold temperatures. Full disclosure, pre-treating is less effective in these conditions and salt effectiveness drops below approximately 21°F. While crews will pre-treat to reduce initial snow buildup, no amount of treatment can fully keep up with the snowfall amounts currently forecast.
The attached video shows city crews pre-treating roadways near Ozarks Healthcare to help maintain access to critical medical services.

Overnight preparations:
Night-shift crews will be staged and ready once snow begins falling, currently expected between 11:00 p.m. tonight and 2:00 a.m. Saturday.
If higher snowfall totals occur (8–18 inches forecast):

Priorities will focus on maintaining access to essential services, including:
• Ozarks Healthcare emergency room and hospital
• Police, fire, and EMS facilities

Equipment ready for deployment includes:
• 6 plow trucks with spreader beds
• 1 dump truck with spreader bed
• 3 backhoes
• 2 rubber-tire loaders
• 3 skid steers

Please plan ahead, use caution if travel is necessary, and watch for additional updates as conditions develop.
