The West Plains R-VII School District is proud to announce that its entire bus fleet has
successfully passed the annual school bus inspections conducted by the Missouri State
Highway Patrol, achieving 100% compliance with no infractions.
Each year, the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducts thorough inspections of school buses
across Missouri to ensure they meet strict safety standards. Inspectors evaluate essential
components including brakes, tires, steering, lights, emergency exits, and overall mechanical condition. The West Plains fleet met every requirement, reflecting the district’s strong commitment to student safety and operational excellence.
This achievement is the result of the hard work and dedication of the district’s transportation team. Special recognition goes to longtime bus mechanic Dennis Weatherford, whose expertise and attention to detail have played a vital role in keeping the district’s buses running safely and efficiently. Weatherford has faithfully served the district for 11 years and will retire in May 2026, concluding more than a decade of dedicated service to the students and families of West Plains. The district also commends its transportation drivers for their daily inspections, careful upkeep, and ongoing commitment to student safety.
District leadership, including Superintendent Dr. Wesley Davis, Director of Human Resources and Student Services Matthew Orchard, and Transportation Director Dr. Donnie Miller, praised the transportation department for its outstanding work and extended sincere appreciation to Weatherford for his years of service and the lasting impact he has made on the safety and reliability of student transportation.
The district also credits its continued investment in transportation for helping maintain a safe and reliable fleet. Over the past four years, the West Plains School District has purchased two new buses each year, demonstrating a strong commitment to maintaining modern, dependable transportation for students and families.
