She was born May 17, 1943, to Oscar Halk Mullins and Dora Ann (Bean) Mullins. Carol married Jimmie Schaufler on January 5, 1963. The couple moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Carol began working for General Electric. After the birth of their daughter, Jana, they returned to Bakersfield, where Carol worked as a secretary at Bakersfield School. She was a devoted member of the Bakersfield Church of Christ.  Carol was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and painting, creating many still-life pieces and portraits. She also loved gardening, especially tending to her peonies and Easter lilies. An avid cook, she found joy in preparing meals for her family. Carol was also a skilled seamstress and lovingly made most of her daughter Jana’s clothing until she was about ten years old.  She often reminisced about her teenage years, traveling with cousins and close family members to Kentucky and Michigan for work—memories she cherished deeply. Carol took great pride in her grandsons, Chris “Goob” and his brother Taylor, and she lovingly cared for her grandchildren, Tyson and Brody. She saved everything they made, along with newspaper clippings and treasured mementos of their lives.
