Kirk Wayne Howell was born February 15, 1965, in Walla Walla, Washington, to Gordon and Mary (Richardson) Howell. Kirk joined his infant son, Isaac, and many other family members in heaven on Wednesday, April 22, 1965. He was 61 years old. The family moved home to Summersville when Kirk was a baby. He loved this community and never had a desire to live anywhere else. He had so many memories of hunting and spending time down on Big Creek with his cousins.

Kirk attended Summersville schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade. After graduation, he worked a variety of jobs, including Hodnett’s Service Station, Brown Shoes, and trucking with Dale Tune. He especially loved working at Dales Auto Tires. In 1995, he started working as a grader man for Shannon County. He and Danny Cook have been called the Dynamic Duo of grader men and took great pride in grading the roads around Summersville and Hartshorn. Kirk retired from road grading in August of 2024. After retirement, he enjoyed working on the family farm with Elijah and Sondra, hunting and watching ball games with his sons, but especially enjoyed the title of Grandpa.

In August of 1995, he was introduced to Sondra Frazier. They quickly decided they were right for each other and married in February of 1996. At the beginning of 1998, they bought the Paul and Fay Edward’s place. There, they raised their family- Kirk’s daughter Jessica, along with Violet, Elijah, Joe, and Zeb. As a family, they enjoyed camping at the lake or river. As the kids got older, they became more involved in school activities. During this time, Elijah decided he wanted bottle calves, and that was the beginning of KSFarms. As the number of cows grew, Kirk knew he needed a way to keep Sondra interested and offered for her to get some animals of her own. That was the start to their hairy cow fold, or half cows as Elijah called them.

One of Kirk’s lasting memories was of going to the little rock church (Church of God of Prophecy) with his Grandma Richardson. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at a young age. He and Sondra attended Midvale Church early in their marriage and were greatly influenced by Pastors Emmett and James Bradford. As the years went on, they became great friends with Pastor Bob Brooks when Midvale changed to Midvale Church of God of Prophecy, making it a full circle for Kirk. Everyone who knew Kirk knew he loved Jesus. He never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone around him feel better. His wisdom, heart, and kindness were his defining traits. He lived his life according to the word of God and showed his love not just through his words, but through his actions. To know Kirk was to know what it means to be loved and valued.

He was preceded in death by: Grandpa John & Grandma Mildred Howell; Grandpa Odess & Grandma Cleta Richardson, and infant son Isaac.

He is survived, and will be greatly missed by his parents Gordon and Mary Howell; his wife Sondra; his children, Jessica (and son Davis), Violet (husband Daniel and their children Josh and Evie), Elijah (wife Annie and their daughter Josephine), Joe, and Zeb; Sister Sheila Grogan(husband Kerry and children Justin & Alana); Father and Mother in law Butch and Patty Frazier; Uncles Johnny & Pete Howell; countless cousins, extended family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kirk’s memory may be made to the Street Cemetery.
