Dwayne Moorehead

Dwayne J. Moorhead, 77 of Cabool passed away on Jan. 21, 2026. He was born on April 2, 1948 in Pampas, TX the oldest son of William Wayne and Jessie Elsie Owetta (Jackson) Moorhead.

Dwayne was of the Baptist faith, saved many years ago and attended the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church south of Cabool for a few years until his health issues began. He enjoyed spending time with family and always had jokes and stories of growing up to tell. Dwayne liked to hunt and fish, float trips, canoeing and learning about guns; in general he loved nature.

Dwayne attended school at the Pine Flat country school for 2 years (1954-55) then consolidated to Cabool Schools where he graduated in 1966. From 1966 to 1969 he worked on the family farm. In early March 1969, Wayne, younger brother, Layne and Dwayne went to work in the Alaska oil fields. His mother and two sisters followed in May 1969. the family stayed until Layne was called to join the military. They all returned to Cabool so Layne could enter the military from a familiar place.

Dwayne’s decided to go to Chef’s school in Kansas City, upon completion of school he was irked to work at Putsch’s Cafeteria in Kansas City where he would work for 2 or 3 years before returning to the farm. After a couple of years he went to Arkansas to spend time with his uncle Jodie and aunt Christine. While there he made good friends with a distant cousin, Charles Cole who was working offshore oil wells in the gulf. He decided to give the offshore work a try. He worked there for four yeas until he was let go due to company consolidation.

While in Arkansas he became friends with some machinists and decided to attend school to become a machinist and went to work at Jonesboro Tool and Die. Dwayne was united in marriage to Lanette Hutchison, who he met while working at Putsch’s Cafeteria and moved to Garden City, MO, working at a tool and die shop in Garden City. They lived there for four and a half years until they divorced and he moved back to Cabool. He then worked at Mtn. View Fab, Beelers at Mtn. Grove and then L & R at Cabool until his polio affected him so bad in the winter he retired and received his disability. Dwayne then married Kathy Klicker and they lived on a farm they bought north west of Cabool for about five and a half years before they divorced.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents; his uncle, Jodie and aunt, Christine and distant cousin, Ina Mae and Charles Cole. He is survived by one brother, Layne of Andalusia, AL; adopted brother, Steve (Virginia) Roberson of Cabool; sisters, Lyssa (John) Watkins of Newport, OR and Patsy Coen of Mtn. Grove, MO; nephews, Patrick Moorhead, Adama Coen and Joshua (Kelly) Coen and nieces, Delayna (Dusty) Matthews and Delvayna (Kevin) Blankenship.
