The Cardinals opened their series against the Pirates with a bang after securing a walk-off win in St. Louis. Alec Burleson hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth to secure a 7-6 victory. Burleson had four hits in the victory, while Riley O’Brien picked up his second win in relief.
Willson Contreras was ejected in the seventh inning after striking out. He threw his bat in frustration during an exchange with the umpires and hit Cardinals hitting coach Brant Brown.
St. Louis is in fourth place in the NL Central at 65-and-67. The Cardinals send Andre Pallante to the mound against the Pirates tonight.
