The Royals opened up their road trip with a loss. Kansas City fell to the Cleveland Guardians 10-2 at Progressive Field. Jac Caglianone drove in both of the team’s runs on a two-run single in the ninth inning. Starting pitcher Ryan Bergert was charged with his second loss after allowing eight runs on 11 hits through three-and-a-third innings.
The Royals playoff chances took a big hit. With the loss to Cleveland, the Royals drop a half-game behind the Guardians, 1.5 games behind the Rangers, and now three games behind Seattle in the Wild Card chance with 18 games remaining on Kansas City’s schedule.
