SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury softball’s Karsyn Smith was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performance last weekend.
Smith made two appearances, was 1-0 and worked 10 innings without allowing a run. The junior from West Plains, Missouri, fired a four-hit shutout on Saturday in a 1-0 win that snapped fifth-ranked Indianapolis’ 25-game winning streak. Smith struck out five Greyhound batters in the game as UIndy suffered their first loss in the league this year falling to 21-1. She returned to work three scoreless innings of relief against Lewis the following day. Smith held opposing hitters to a .156 average during the week, and she posted a 0.80 ratio in walks + hits per innings pitched.
Karsyn Smith is 8-0 so far this season with a 1.51 earned run average. The weekly honor is the first of Smith’s career, and she is the first Drury pitcher to win the award since Daisy Dudek was honored by the league on March 4, 2019.
The Panthers are 23-12 and in second place in the GLVC with a 17-7 record in the conference. Drury ends the regular season on the road this weekend with a doubleheader at Illinois Springfield on Saturday and a twin-bill at Quincy on Sunday.
