The Liberty-Mtn. View Eagles kicked off the 2025 Football season as they traveled to Strafford, Missouri to take on the Strafford Indians. Last year during the season’s opening night, The Eagles played the Indians @ home and lost by a Score of 22-14. In this matchup, The Eagles shut down the Indians through both quick offensive moves and defensive blocks and took home a 48-0 win.
1st Quarter: Eagles control the tip and first block by Jaren Rutledge. They pick up just enough yardage for a first down and Rutledge is able to pick up enough for a First down and more, getting the ball into the in-zone for what we thought was the first touchdown of the night. It is called back after a blocking in the back penalty and becomes Strafford Indian Football. After a loose snap by the Eagles, the ball is intercepted by Freshman, Levi Compton for the Strafford Indians. Ironically, Compton picks up a good chunk of yardage and just enough to make a 25-yard run all to be called back after the ball comes just short of the in-zone. Eagles get the ball back and this time eye their next offensive play with a bit more finesse. Junior Jasper Melby makes the next pass into the zone and scores on a 78- yard run with a good two-point conversion by Jaren Rutledge. This leaves the Eagles up 8-0 at the end of one.
2nd Quarter: Early in the quarter, junior Reed Tune injures an already casted ankle in which he ends up out for the duration of the game. Eagles get a series of holding calls to start the quarter as they are held off up until the next interception by none other than once again, Junior Jasper Melby. Melby goes onto score the next eight points with the help of Parker Tune making the score, 16-0. After a few more blocked passes, Eagles try to punch one more in with about 5:55 to go in the half but it a flag is thrown on the play. This happens at least twice and both under questionable calls. However, after the next to last play is deemed Eagle Football, Parker Tune scores on the final touchdown run of the Half with Jasper Melby converting the extra point.
HALFTIME- Liberty Eagles: 24/Strafford Indians: 0
3rd Quarter: Eagles continue deny the Indians a shot at extra yardage. As Tyler Chowning says in the Broadcast, “Strafford has gained no positive yardage” at least at this point in the game. Parker Tune scores another vast yardage touchdown runs plus the third of the night by Melby, this puts the Eagles ahead, 40-0 at the end of three.
4th Quarter: Parker Tune scores the next eight points for the Eagles on another 45-yard run and Melby with the kick on the two- point conversion. Eagles stay far enough ahead on offense, allowing Coach Acklin to empty the bench.
Eagles hold on through the Quarter and take home the win, 48-0
Next week; Eagles will be at their home field Nest @ Liberty High School where they will take on the St James Tigers.
