Padres Manager Mike Shildt Retires Due to ‘Severe Toll’ of Job

Mike Shildt, manager of the San Diego Padres, announced his immediate retirement after two seasons, citing the severe mental, physical, and emotional toll of the job.

Under his leadership, the Padres made the playoffs both seasons, finishing with a 183–141 record in San Diego.
