Royals 7, Mets 6

The Royals knocked off the Mets on a walk-off balk in extra innings. Kansas City recorded its fourth straight win with a 7-6 victory over New York in their series opener at Kauffman Stadium. MJ Melendez scored on a disengagement violation made by New York reliever Josh Walker with the bases loaded. Carlos Hernandez earned his first win of the season despite letting up two runs in the 10th inning. The Royals improved to 33-and-75. Left-hander Cole Ragans will take the mound against New York tonight.

Kansas City parted ways with a pair of pitchers at the MLB trade deadline. The Royals sent starter Ryan Yarbrough to the Los Angeles Dodgers and reliever Scott Barlow to the San Diego Padres. In exchange for Barlow, the Royals will receive minor league pitching prospects Henry Williams and Jesus Rios. In return for Yarbrough, Kansas City will add minor league infielders Derlin Figueroa and Devin Mann. In another trade, the Royals acquired left-hander Tucker Davidson from the Angels in exchange for cash considerations.
